1988 ford f150 won't shift out of park?

my 1988 f150 wont shift out of park the other day the key wouldn't start the truck because it wouldn't push the rod down far enough but it would still shift so i just started it by the solenoid and it drove fine now today it wont shift out of park please help me with this it still steers and starts up just fine
