Reasons why secrets should be kept to yourself, than the whole world knowing them?

I think a good reason would be if the outcome caused by telling the secret would only cause harm and make things worse. Even if it doesn't feel good to keep the secret in, if telling it would only cause pointless heartache then it seems better not to.
